Hi Colin
I think we spoke once at The Magic Attic - although as a Jackson I am also interested in that name I don't think we have any connection - certainly not a recent one. All my Jacksons seem to have come from Melbourne. None of the other names you are searching for have come up in my tree either.
Edit - 09/12/06: Colin I almost forgot - My Grandmother was a Wilkins brn 1905 In Poole Village - is that any connection?
Can I just add - the work you are doing on the BDM database is appreciated - I have found several records including my wife's still born elder brother
Thanks
Glyn

Hi Colin Just read your note about the names you are interested in. I can connect with one of them (I hope). The Warren family. They came from various places in Derbyshire, but mainly Melbourne, Ticknall, Duffield and Turnditch. Do you think there is a connection? Hope so, because its a difficult job trying to sort them all out! Other names in my tree are: Wolstenholme, Ashmole, Pickering and Tivey. Regards Comillas

Hi Colin, I'm interest in your maternal line that leads to Japhet BATES. My wife has a Japheth BATES b,1851 @ Overseal described as Grandson - living with William BATES b.1804 @ Appleby Magna (farm bailiff). Japheth becomes a 'day miner' ? Japheth BATES b.1851 marries Elizabeth CALLOWAY b.1859 @ Chelsea, and they lived at Church Gresley. Is there any connection ? Regards, Charioteer.

Hiya.
It does'nt look like there is any connection, the Japhet Bates that i have was born in 1869 at Church Gresley and died in 1946 at Newhall, i have found a baptism at Swadlincote Church in 1872 but there's no mention of a father, just the mothers name, which is Fanny Bates, i have Japhet marrying Mary Ann Johnson in 1894.
Cheers.
Colin.

Hi Colin
My first visit to your site and board - excellent!
One of my husband's relatives was a Sarah Dooley who was keeping house for her father at Swadlincote in 1901. The family is from Tunstall originally.

Hi Colin, just been browsing your site and saw that your grandad lived in Squires Row or Roggin Row. I was born at No 2, my mum was a Mitchell and she was best friends with Winnie Jackson, later Midgely who had a son John. I knew your grand parants, I think they lived at No 5, and living at No 4 was another Jackson, Les, but can't remember if they were brothers or not. Regards Linda Beard

Hi Colin! I am a granddaughter of Alice Eva Bates and Fred Worthington, so I guess that makes us cousins. I found the BDM most helpful with building the Swadlincote centred part of the family. Strangely it gave me the link to the Worthington branch from Plungar (Vale of Belvoir)! An excellent tool. Keep up the good work. Charioteer's Japhet Ephraim Bates 1846 who married Eliza Callaway in 1883 after his first wife Mary Fearn m.1872 died, is Frances Jane (Fanny) Bates' younger brother, therefore Japhet William's uncle. They were both born in Overseal and the records show there were at least 4 older siblings; Rebecca 1830, James 1835, William 1838 & John 1839. Their parents were William Bates 1804, Appleby Magna and Mary (Lunn?), Measham. Hope you won't mind if I mention that Brett Payne's South Derbyshire Genealogy Pages are also very useful. The pages include many of the surrounding parishes; Blackfordby, Measham, Hartshorne... etc. and has transcripts of some census and church BMD records. Regards, Mary

Hi Colin
I have recently visited the churchyard at Christ Church, Linton, looking for graves of my relatives - The Glover family. I found several there including Joseph Glover 1911 and Enoch Glover 1926, which I see that you photographed for the South Derbyshire BDM website. Curiously, they have tinsel wreaths wrapped round the headstone, as if someone is looking after the graves in a way. I was wondering whether you could throw any light on this, as I would be very interested in contacting a family member who could give me some information on the family.
I am a descendant of Joseph Glover 1809 - 1875 who married Sarah Bates 12 Nov 1810 Newton Regis - Oct 1886 Burton upon Trent. All the census entries state that Joseph was born in Hartshorne, but I can find no record of his baptism. I would love to find out who his parents were and take the line back further.
Sarah Bates apparently had a child Louisa Bates in 1831 before her marriage to Joseph Glover in 1832, so I'm assuming that he was the father. Their second child, John was my great great grandfather. He died in 1894 in Netherseal, but is buried in Linton. I could not find his grave, and I believe that it is unmarked. If you know the whereabouts of a plan of burials at Christ church, I would be interested to see it.
I look forward to hearing from you.

My grandfather was the son of Japheth E Bates and Eliza Bates.I guess that means I must be a distant relation to Chariteer and smudgyem. My mum has memories of visiting her grandmother ,as a young girl.

So we must be related then, Eva Annie (My aunt annie) was my dads (Norman) sister, and their children Gary, Keith etc are my 1st cousins, so that would make you my 1st cousin once removed. I have some info on them and beyond, it would probably be best if you sent me an email of what you require etc. @ southderbyshirebdm@yahoo.co.uk
Cheers Colin.
