I have made some progress with the 'brick wall' I'd hit on my wife's grandmother.
She was born Lucy Jane Steele 14/04/1899
her mother was Effiencess or Effiness ? born c1865 she married
Henry Steele born c1860 however he dies in 1895 so was not the father of Lucy
In the 1901 Census they were living in Albert Village and there are two men William & James Barney lodging at that address - I am assuming one is the father of Lucy and that is where that name came into story.
If anyone has any connection to these familys of more information I would love to speak to you more about it.

Glyn Your wifes grandmother, Lucy Jane Steele, is the granddaughter of George Jones(b.1837, Church Gresley, Derbys) and Emma Wright (b. abt 1840, Hartshorne, Derbys). They were married in the March Qtr of 1859 in Ashby de la Zouch District. They had a daughter Effiness born between 1862 and 1865. I have not been able to find her bapt. in the Church Gresley prs or on FreeBMD Civil registrations. Effie married Henry Steele Nov. 30, 1884 in Church Gresley. See my Family Tree Maker Web site at familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/a/t/Craig-Mather-il/GENE7-0005.htmlSee the genealogy report of Edward Jones and his 2nd wife, Elizabeth Cole.. the relevant descendents are Thomas, Joseph, Edward, Aaron, and George. you can contact me at the below email address. It looks like your wife and I may be cousins! Take care Craig Mather Mundelein, Illinois USA e-mail: chmgenealogy@comcast.net
