Hello Sue, my great-great grandmother was Rosanna Chell born Newhall 1824 died there 1858. She was the daughter of Mary Chell born Dillhorn, Staffordshire, I think Rosanna had a brother Daniel. She married Benjamin Gough on 9th Nov 1841 at Newhall. Do Rosanna, Daniel or Mary fit into your tree?

Hi Rosie I do have Rosehannah in my tree and her brother Daniel and Samuel. Samuel was my great x 2 grandfather. His daughter Sophia married William Beard who were the parents of my grandmother Emily Beard.

Hi Sue, I'd forgotten about Samuel, was he the elder brother? I think Mary Chell married William Street as Rosanna and Daniel are in his household on the 1841 census. I'm not sure if Mary was the daughter of Joseph Chell and Mary Firnehough or Joseph Chell and Miria Weston both couples from Dilhorn and having families at the same time there. Do you know anything more about Mary Chell?

Hi Rosie Samuel was the elder son of Mary Chell. I think Mary did marry William Street but from what info I have it was possibly about 1830 so William was not the father of Samuel Rosehannah or Daniel. From my info William Street and Mary had a son Thomas born 1832. I have Mary Chell as the daughter of Joseph Chell and Mary Firnehough. Regard Sue

Hi Sue,
Yes, there was a son, Thomas, with William Street. When I looked at the parish records at Matlock (many years ago) I found Rosanna's baptism 25th July 1824, illegitimate daughter of Mary Chell, a servant. I wonder about the father(s) of Samuel, Rosanna and Daniel. I also wonder about why Mary moved from Dilhorn to Stapenill/Newhall - probably for work but did she move alone or with her family? Perhaps another visit to Matlock is in order to see if there are any settlement, charity or paternity records regarding Mary.
I thought Joseph Chell and Mary Firnehough were probably the right ones:) Thanks.
Rosie
